Finally put this project to rest.
It’s a 2×12 pine speaker cab with matching finish and leather handles. It’s currently wired 4 ohms and can handle about 150 watts.
The front spear baffle is half inch birch, as is the speaker cab back (it’s about a 3/4 closed back).
Here’s another head and cab combo I built. This one has a darker faceplate..I like the look of this one. This cab houses a Bogen 35 watt tube amp. Picture shot with a 1X15 cab I just finished. The speaker cab adds a little more bottom end then the 2×12. Sounds great.

I’m taking a break from posting projects this week so I thought I’d dig into my bag of gear and blog about some of the stuff I’ve gathered over the years.
Picked this beauty up a few years ago on a whim after hearing David Bowie’s ‘Slip Away’ off his Heathen album (…I know, he also used it on Space Oddity…). Anyway, thought it’d be cool to have one.
The Stylophone was invented in 1967, originally sold by Debreq in the UK, and promoted by Australian musician Rolph Harris (Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport). In the US, it was manufactured and sold by the American Stylophone Co. out of Chicago – wasn’t really promoted all that much. I think they sold about 3 million units in the UK alone. Won the ebay bidding on an old tube amp for about $90 from ebayer thomash231 who lives in Muskegon, MI.
If you’re looking for vintage gear, Tom is a great ebayer to deal with. He also makes custom amps, check out his website here. The amp a 3M ‘Background Music’ PA, about 35 watts and was modified for guitar (Mic inputs, and speaker out converted to ¼ inch jacks). It was made sometime in the early 60’s –

I found this old Kay cello on Craigslist for 20 bucks it’s a ¾ size model #111.
The serial number dates it late 1949 or early 1950. It’s missing pegs, tailpiece, endpin, sound post, bridge, etc…only body and neck.
It’s in awful shape with many areas of the finish worn though to the wood – perfect!

Hi all. Built a Carvin Bolt guitar a while back.
My wife gave it to me as a Christmas gift back in 2007 (though it wasn’t actually delivered until late Jan. 2008. Since all Carvin guitars are built to order (even the kits), it can take as long as 8 weeks to get one. Anyway, I thought I’d let ya know how it went. Here’s the stuff I used, custom Minwax color,
